On a particularly challenging day, Dereck received a distressing call from an individual at a station who was in severe emotional distress and had intentions of ending his life. Despite the intensity of the situation, Dereck responded with remarkable calm and empathy.
Dereck spent the morning at the station, providing unwavering support and ensuring that the individual felt heard and cared for. His efforts culminated in successfully connecting the person with the necessary mental health support services. Before leaving, Dereck took additional responsible steps by informing the station staff and the Station Team Manager about the individual's state and potential return, enhancing ongoing vigilance and care.
This incident highlights Dereck's dedication not only to safety but also to the mental well-being of the public. His proactive and thoughtful response under such intense pressure undoubtedly saved a life and provided a chance for recovery and hope.
