Nottingham, 21st August 2024— Lilian Greenwood MP, Member of Parliament for Nottingham South and is also the Under-Secretary of State for Transport, visited Nottingham Railway Station to meet with members of the Railway Mission Chaplaincy team, as well as key figures from East Midlands Railway (EMR) and the British Transport Police (BTP). The visit highlighted the crucial support provided by the Railway Mission and the collaborative efforts of rail industry professionals in ensuring the well-being and safety of railway staff and passengers.
During her visit, Lilian Greenwood MP was introduced to Colin, the Railway Mission Chaplain for the Nottingham area, who plays a vital role in supporting the mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of railway staff. Ms. Greenwood also had the opportunity to engage with Will Rogers, the Managing Director of East Midlands Railway (EMR), as well as Chief Inspector Gill and officers from the British Transport Police at Nottingham Station.
The visit underscored the importance of the Railway Mission’s work in providing pastoral care to those working within the railway industry, often dealing with challenging and high-stress situations. The Chaplaincy service is a key resource for staff, offering a listening ear and practical support when needed.
Lilian Greenwood MP took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share her experience, stating: "At Nottingham Railway station to hear more about the work of @RailwyMission. Lovely to meet Colin, the RM chaplain who supports all rail staff in our area and to hear from @BTP officers and @EastMidRailway staff about their vital work and how Colin’s support makes a difference."
Will Rogers, Managing Director of East Midlands Railway (EMR) expressed his appreciation for the ongoing partnership with the Railway Mission, acknowledging the positive impact of their support on the well-being of the railway community. Chief Inspector Gill from the BTP also highlighted the collaborative efforts between the police, the Railway Mission, and the Railway (EMR) in maintaining a safe and supportive environment at Nottingham Railway Station.
